Beverly Bryant, Disaster Volunteer, booked a plane in Evansville on September 12 and headed down to Texas to help people who were in the path of Hurricane Ike. She landed in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area before the hurricane hit, then went to Houston to wait for deployment to Winnie, TX. There, she spent 21 days providing Mass Care and working in the shelter. From 5:30 in the morning to 9:30 or 10 at night, she received and interviewed evacuees, set up cots and served meals.
Beverly is one of many volunteers that are willing to leave the comfort of their homes to reach out to others in a time of need, volunteers who make such a difference in our community and in our world. We need volunteers who can go out to major disasters, and we also need volunteers closer to home that can respond to house-fires and local disasters. If you have ever considered becoming a Red Cross Volunteer or would like to receive more information, please contact the Cardinal Chapter. You may just… Change a Life. |

“What the media doesn’t show is the need that is still there. It’s devastating that where there was once a city, now there’s nothing. It’s just gone.” —Beverly Bryant |
